A beacon of creativity and purpose—Amani Mansur. As the driving force behind ANMarketing, Amani's journey is an enthralling tale of familial influence, childhood lessons, and an unwavering commitment to redefine success on her own terms.
How did your upbringing shape your entrepreneurial mindset and work ethic?
My upbringing played a pivotal role in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset and work ethic. Surrounded by resilient entrepreneurs – my mom owning a cleaning company for over 30 years and my father running a smoothie and fruit stand – I witnessed firsthand the highs and lows of business. At the tender age of 8, the economic crash exposed me to the stark contrast between thriving and surviving. This experience became a source of inspiration, fueling my desire to build, create, and strive for more. The struggles my family faced and the subsequent separation served as a poignant reminder to go above and beyond. Their challenges became my driving force; if I succeed, they succeed. This deeply ingrained connection propels me forward, shaping every entrepreneurial endeavor with empathy, determination, and an unwavering commitment to success.
Were there any specific experiences or lessons from your childhood that influenced your decision to become an entrepreneur?
The experiences of my childhood profoundly influenced my choice to become an entrepreneur. Witnessing the average person working tirelessly until their bodies were depleted or until retirement at an advanced age struck me as profoundly depressing. The realization that despite hard work, hefty contributions to taxes, and the need for additional hustles to survive, a sense of fulfillment seemed elusive. During traumatic events in my early childhood, I yearned for my father's presence, but his commitment as the provider meant dedicating weekdays and weekends to work. I vividly recall the strain in his eyes and the toll on his skin from overworking. It became clear that this reality was not one I wanted for myself. Driven by a desire for a different path, I committed to expanding my knowledge and growth, not just within a company but to create an ideal venture for myself and others who shared similar aspirations. This journey is fueled by a determination to redefine success on my terms and create a more balanced and fulfilling life.
How did your educational background contribute to or diverge you from your path as an entrepreneur?
My educational background took an unexpected turn after graduating high school. I embarked on a journey, traveling across the country and enrolling at Georgia State for mathematics. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a shift to remote learning, which I found somewhat distasteful. In the midst of these challenges, I discovered Coursera, and it transformed my learning experience. Coursera not only revolutionized how I acquired knowledge but also enriched my portfolio. The unconventional path and the embrace of online learning became integral to my entrepreneurial journey, providing me with diverse skills and perspectives that traditional education might not have offered.
What were some challenges you faced when starting your business?
Starting a business is a challenging endeavor, not meant for the faint-hearted. Structuring my business posed a significant hurdle, along with establishing a social presence, engaging an audience, and building a robust portfolio. The multifaceted nature of these tasks, coupled with the need to stay motivated in the face of setbacks, made the journey particularly demanding. One of the central challenges was navigating the process of building a business without depleting my limited resources. Balancing the ambition to succeed with financial constraints required careful planning and resourcefulness to ensure sustainable growth without risking my last bit of money.
How did you overcome those challenges?
I tackled those challenges through consistency, recognizing that they were integral parts of the entrepreneurial process. Patience and self-grace played crucial roles in staying resilient. Leveraging available resources, I sought mentors with extensive experience in the field, gaining valuable insights, creative ideas, and beneficial suggestions for my business. Additionally, I took the initiative to conduct thorough research and educate myself on the intricacies of being a small business owner. This proactive approach, combined with mentorship and a commitment to continuous learning, proved instrumental in overcoming obstacles and fostering the growth of my business.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The inspiration to create my own business stemmed from a desire for creative control, the freedom to explore uncharted territories, and share unique insights that had yet to be explored. The prospect of being able to learn while shaping my own path fueled this drive. Equally compelling was the passion to make a positive impact by assisting others and their brands. The ability to contribute to the success and growth of others became a driving force, aligning my business endeavors with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

What is your favorite thing about your industry?
My favorite aspects of my industry are the dynamic hustle, the continuous learning through consistent marketing efforts, the expansive network, and the incredible people within it. I thrive on connecting with like-minded, creative individuals who share a passion for the art of rebranding and restructuring. It's the collective energy, innovation, and collaborative spirit that make this industry truly invigorating and rewarding.
What is your least favorite thing about your industry?
My least favorite aspects involve the constant changes within the industry, dealing with limitations imposed by individuals or companies, and the competitive pressure to continually educate and motivate oneself. Navigating through these challenges requires adaptability and a persistent commitment to personal and professional growth.
Can you tell us about a project or initiative that you think can inspire positive change or make a difference?
I've had the privilege of working with a tech startup called "Hoppsy," where I served as a data analytics intern and managed their social media platforms. This project holds immense significance for me as I foresee the positive impact it can make in the coming years. Contributing to a company with such potential for growth and innovation is inspiring, and I believe it has the capacity to bring about meaningful change in the tech industry.
Are there any other types of endeavors you are looking to start?
I'm eager to venture into business consulting with a focus on rebranding, restructuring, and repurposing brands. The goal is to provide individuals with the opportunity to elevate their small businesses into thriving enterprises. I'm excited about the prospect of guiding and supporting others in their entrepreneurial journey, fostering growth and success in the business landscape.
Have you ever been involved in joint ventures?
I have been involved in several joint ventures, and I particularly appreciate them for the collaborative network and resource pool they offer. The shared expertise and combined efforts often result in more robust and successful outcomes. I'm open to exploring joint ventures in the future, especially within the context of OBM MAGAZINE entrepreneurs. The idea of a collective effort to "reach each one and teach one" aligns perfectly with my values and aspirations.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
The advice I would offer to someone contemplating starting their own business is to begin with a well-thought-out plan. Within that plan, clearly define your big goals and dreams, and outline practical steps or guidelines to achieve them. Understand that genuine success is a gradual process; shortcuts and cheating won't lead to sustainable results. Grant yourself the grace to grow and learn, and seek mentors and teachers who can provide valuable guidance along the way. Consistency is key, so don't give up, stay committed, and your hard work will undoubtedly pay off in the long run.
